Chemical peels
A chemical peel generally involves applying an acid solution for a planned time, then removing or neutralising it. Depth and formula vary widely. Home products are not the same as a clinic peel.
Suitability
Suitability depends on skin type, recent actives, medicines, infection risk, and the provider’s examination. Peels can irritate or pigment if poorly chosen. GPU.Skin does not recommend a specific peel for you.
Discussion points for a provider
- Which acid and depth they have in mind, in plain English
- Whether you should pause retinoids or acids beforehand
- Expected flaking versus unexpected pain or blistering
- Sun protection afterwards
- Who to contact if the skin does not settle
